Author i am legend7/7/2023 The book is important historically, though without the 2007 adaptation starring Will Smith, contemporary readers wouldn’t bump into it in an airport bookstore. With I Am Legend we have an intriguing opportunity to compare book and film. My solution to go around the problem- I got in a bit of trouble here-doesn’t take away from the fact that I think the books are far better than the films, even if I am a big fan of the LOTR trilogy on screen. The arguments around Peter Jackson’s Middle Earth adaptations, where there is both heat and light, shows a number of dividing lines. Some people, of course, never feel a film shows fidelity to the original author. I am both a book-lover and a film buff, so I am open to the idea that a film might be better than the book. Someone mentioned The Princess Bride to me lately, and I agree that the film has it hands down. It is rare that I hear a true book-lover say that the film was better than the book, but I’m sure we can find exceptions. “The film adaptation was not faithful to the book.”. Can a film be better than the book? It depends on how we define “better,” but book-lovers tend to say two sorts of things about adaptations: Out of africa by isak dinesen7/6/2023 With the financial downfall of her plantation, Blixen was broke and unsure of what to do with her life. University of Alberta: Canadian Institute for Nordic Studies: Stambaugh’s Public Lecture on Danish Writer Karen Blixen/Isak Dinesen.Encyclopedia Britannica: 300 Women Who Changed the World: Isak Dinesen.Karen Blixen Museum (Denmark): Karen Blixen’s Life.Though she divorced the baron in 1921, she remained at the plantation for another 10 years until financial difficulties forced her to return to Denmark. In 1913, she married her cousin, Swedish Baron Bror Blixen-Finecke, and soon moved with him to Kenya, where they ran a coffee plantation. “The notebooks in which she wrote are also full of drawings of trolls and landscapes, portraits of women and illustrations of her favourite reading at the time.” Karen Christence Dinesen was born April 17, 1885, in Rungsted, Denmark, located about 25 miles north of Copenhagen.Īs a child, she liked “to write fairy tales, stories and plays, the latter being performed at her home with her sisters and friends,” according to the Karen Blixen Museum in Rungsted. Karen Blixen may be the best-known Danish writer of the 20th century, authoring books such as “Seven Gothic Tales,” “Winter’s Tales” and “Out of Africa” under the pen name Isak Dinesen. Black knight rina kent book buy7/6/2023 I waited for how many months for this, and I got a regurgitation. I’m not knocking the writing I’m knocking the lack of creativity. My point is we are at clickbait level of storytelling, where we all wait for the next story with the same trope with just a little further pushing of the envelope. Kim’s life is endangered–wait, didn’t that happen to Ella in Twisted Kingdom? And several times to Reina in Lies and Truth Duet? Secondly, there is a point in Black Knight in which a triggering event causes a life-threatening situation. It doesn’t follow the timeline mentioned in the earlier books, which is ten years old, and this occurs when these two are eleven. Then one day, Kim and Xan have a level two event on a scale of one-to-ten, he’s cold to Kim and tells her she’s disgusting and hates her. Kim and Xander were besties growing up, completely inseparable. And Xander, where to even start there?Īnd I’m prepared for the rotten tomatoes and voices of dissent but hear me out before you get angry. And much is nonsensical as far as the plotline is concerned. But there is so much of this book re-used from Rina Kent’s other books. Kim’s characterization is fantastic and truer than book three, Twisted Kingdom when she came across like a fluffy little cheer queen. It’s compelling and gorgeous in its emotional depth. I’ve been reading this series since the start, and it’s been getting better with each book, Black Knight, by far the best in the Royal Elite Series. Title: Black Knight ( Royal Elite Series #4) Saga comic 17/6/2023 I think the ambivalent attitude had a lot to do with the name. I’ll take it, but I really have a bad feeling here. Vaughn project was announced earlier this year from Image Comics, I was about as excited as the time I found a pecan underneath one of the cats on our couch. Vaughn’s status is well-earned Runaways, Y: the Last Man, Pride of Baghdad, and writing on LOST (don’t blame him for your problems here) make up the front-end of a stacked resume.Īnd yet, when the big new Brian K. This is oversimplifying for introduction’s sake, but the short data analysis here clearly indicates it pays to be named Brian and utilize your middle name. There will always be the Alan Moore and Stan Lee style legends, but in terms of modern 2012 relevance and consistency, you’ve got Grant Morrison, a drop down to a new tier, and Brian Michael Bendis and Brian K. Vaughn has a level of comic book credibility that is very hard to come by. How to read book by mortimer j adler7/5/2023 While Adler was the sole author behind the original and first revised edition of How to Read a Book (1940, 1967), he was joined by fellow perennial advocate and Institute for Philosophical Research associate Charles Van Doren (Ph.D., English, Columbia University) for the book’s third and still-most recent edition (1972 2014). He is best known for both his advocacy of “educational perennialism,” an academic paradigm based on what is perceived to be universal learning-essentials common to all human beings, as well as serving as chief architect behind the celebrated publishing monument-the Great Books of the Western World series (54 vols). Adler (Ph.D., Philosophy, Columbia University) taught briefly at his alma mater before accepting a professorship at the University of Chicago in 1930, teaching Philosophy of Law. I skimmed through the last part of the book and the epilogue, and it's everything I need to know about the book.įfs, I saw this book now on tiktok and here goes booktokers hyping the below mediocre romance book. She bites her lips, he gets hard and they're on roll (rawr). Not to say, everything is just repetitive and predictable. I was supposed to read an adult romance but the way the characters were written made me believe that this is some high school romance (no, cuz I even read better coming-of-age book). because who speaks like they are in the opera. The dialogues are very unrealistic and contrived. Forever After All had the most mundane plot with terrible writing that takes your reading enjoyment as a whole. The plot is promising to be something great, only to be way off the mark. This is not an attempt to be Regina George but life's too great to continue a book that bored you to hell.
